We all deserve to have safe, healthy and fulfilling relationships... but how?
Relationships are a part of every person’s life, and we’re all entitled to relationships that make us happy. But what does a healthy relationship even look like? How do we tell when a relationship is not healthy? If it’s not healthy, what can we do about it?
These are some of the questions that Empower Tehama aims to help answer by providing prevention and education for individuals, groups, and the community as a whole. Equipping Tehama County residents with the knowledge they need to develop healthy relationships and to recognize and address abuse is the most effective way to prevent relationship and family violence.
Stopping the cycle of violence begins with prevention.
Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program
Teen Dating Violence, like domestic violence, can take many forms and be subtle yet deeply damaging to a teen’s self-worth. Empower Tehama collaborates with local schools to equip teens with the tools they need to develop healthy relationships, recognize abuse, and stop it when it occurs. Students learn healthier ways to communicate within their peer groups and relationships through an evidence-based curriculum, along with presentations and activities throughout the academic year. Youth leaders, trained by TDVP staff, volunteer as ambassadors in their schools, promoting a message of “no tolerance” for teen dating violence by modeling upstanding behavior.
Awareness Events
Empower Tehama coordinates several awareness events each year and actively participates in community events. Our most popular event, Candlelight Walk, has been an annual tradition since 2012, drawing up to 300 participants from the community. This event honors the lives of victims of domestic violence – both those who have tragically lost their lives and those whose lives have been impacted. Together, we walk through historic downtown Red Bluff, illuminated by candlelight, in a moving tribute of remembrance and solidarity.
Empower Tehama invites the community to participate in awareness events and encourages involvement through volunteering. Stay informed by visiting our Upcoming Events page, and discover ways to make a difference on our Volunteer Opportunities page.
